Story: Rifle and Hunt sounds like the beginning of a tale from an early hunting expedition, but the story is really not that complicated. It's more like directions rather than a name, with the Pertaringa property being on the corner of Rifle Range and Hunt Roads in McLaren Vale!
Vineyard: This fruit is sourced from two vineyards, the Osmond’s ‘Leslie’s Block’ on Blewitt Springs Rd, just outside McLaren Flat, and the Tintookie Vineyard on Adams Road in Blewitt Springs.
Harvest: 15 March and 20 March 2024
Winemaking: Crushed and destemmed. Open 5 tonne capacity stainless steel fermenter, 8 days on skins. Pressed directly to French oak hogsheads, 20% new oak for 18 months maturation.
Nose: The nose delivers classic McLaren Vale Cabernet notes of blackcurrant, cedar, and leather, with subtle hints of dried herbs and earth adding depth and complexity.
Palate: Full-bodied and richly flavoured, the palate delivers dense cassis fruit layered with lifted spice and savoury herbal notes. The fine, structured tannins provide both power and poise, carrying the wine through to a long, balanced finish.
