Region: McLaren Vale

Story: The word Pertaringa means ‘belonging to the hills’ in the local Kaurna language. Bec’s father Geoff Hardy chose this name because the cellar door is located in the foothills of McLaren Vale.

Vintage: 2022 season had a mild summer without heatwave conditions. January and February 2022 recorded no days above 40°C. The mild summer was followed by a warm autumn. This produced a gentle and slow ripening period and delayed harvest. Overall Vintage 2022 ranks right up there for quality. Reds have intense, rich and balanced flavours and colours.

Winemaking:  Small batch open fermenters, 15 months in new and aged French oak.

Nose: The nose offers complex aromas of plums, dark fruits, dried herbs and hints of mint.

Palate: The palate is bright and textural with dark berries, plums and subtle spices, complemented by an elegant and lengthy finish.

Cellaring: Drink now to 2030

Alc: 14.5% TA: 6.22g/L
pH: 3.6 RS: 0.6g/L

"This is a bit thrilling. Everything is in place. McLaren Vale Shiraz from a cracking vintage. The wine saw small batch open fermenters, followed by a year and a half maturation in a mix of new and older French oak. An opaque maroon, there is good concentration throughout. Also exemplary oak integration here, along with notes of tar, chocolate, earth, aniseed, spices, cassis and dark plums. This is ripe and plush and yet exhibits balance and focus with early complexity evident. With satiny tannins and great length, this is set for a long and happy life, at least ten to fifteen years."

"This juicy red is brimming with dark berry-fruit aromas as well as smoked paprika and chocolate. It's full-bodied, ripe and creamy, with mellow tannins."
