Pertaringa 'Belonging to the Hills' GSM 2025

Region: McLaren Vale 

Story: The word Pertaringa means ‘belonging to the hills’ in the local Kaurna language. Bec’s father Geoff Hardy chose this name because the cellar door is located in the foothills of McLaren Vale

Vineyards: The Grenache is sourced from two vineyards; Blakley Vineard in Whites Valley and the Wetlands Vineyard on California Road in the Tatachilla Region, the Mourvedre is also from the Wetlands Vineyard. The Shiraz is from the Picnic Grounds vineyard on Kay's Road, this property was once owned by Thomas Hardy. 

Winemaking: All parcels were fermented and matured separately and spent 8 months in aged French oak. 

Nose:  The nose offers elegant and attractive aromas of red berries, plums, white pepper, and black olives.

Palate: The palate is vibrant and complex with red berries and plums, followed by a long, smooth finish.

"This might just be the most enjoyable version of this wine I've yet encountered. It is a cracker. The name 'Pertaringa', actually means 'belonging to the hills', in the local language. The fruit comes from a range of vineyards ? Grenache from the Blakely Vineyard in Whites Valley and the Wetlands Vineyard on California Road in the Tatachilla sub-region; the Mourvedre is also from the Wetlands Vineyard; and the Shiraz comes from the Picnic Grounds Vineyard on Kay's Road, a property which was once owned by Thomas Hardy. Maturation was in older French oak. Vibrant dark purple with a magenta rim, the nose reveals aromas of florals, dark cherries, raspberries, spices, plums, licorice and kirsch. Good intensity here and very good length, through to fine if slightly gritty tannins. The wine is immaculately balanced and should provide pleasure for the next ten to twelve years. Love it. "

"Bright and highly expressive, the nose opens with raspberry, wild strawberry and red plum layered with dried herbs, spice and subtle earthy savouriness. The palate is medium-bodied and beautifully textured, delivering juicy red and dark berry fruit before fine tannins and savoury spice build through the mid-palate. Grenache brings perfume and brightness, Shiraz contributes richness and depth, while Mataro adds earthy structure and grip. Fresh acidity keeps the wine lively and energetic, finishing long and silky with lingering spice and red fruit persistence."
