Lot 94 BSR Tempranillo 2024
Region: Blewitt Springs | McLaren Vale
Story: Located in the cooler Blewitt Springs subregion of McLaren Vale, the roots of this dry grown vineyard run deep with Hardy family history, having being planted by Geoff Hardy in 1993. Producing elegant wines this vineyard is owned by Viticulturist Bec Hardy.
Vineyard: This vineyard is located at Lot 94 on Blewitt Springs Road - hence the name! Block 4 Tempranillo is on an east facing slope with rows runing up and down the hill in an east/west direction.
GPS: -35.184064, 138.593132
Soils: This vineyard is on deep sandy soils that were once sand dunes, likely from Maslin Sands and Pirramimma Sandstone. The deep sand is over yellow clay, which allows vine roots to travel down deep looking for water. These soils are from the Holocene period (11,700 years old).
Harvest Date: 8 March 2024
Winemaking: Small open fermenter, twice daily plunging for gentle extraction. Pressed directly to older French oak hogheads for 6 months maturation before blending and bottling.
Nose: A confluence of red berries including strawberries and boysenberry meld together with hints of wild fennel and tobacco.
Palate: This medium bodied Tempranillo is made in a fresh, early drinking style with plenty of berry flavours and a smooth finish.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2028
Alc: 14.1% | TA: 6.27g/L |

"Great to see this Spanish star variety doing so well in a number of regions in Australia and it certainly works especially well in McLaren Vale. This is a cracking wine and tremendous value. The colour is black cherry/magenta, while the nose features cherries galore, along with spices, black fruits, smoked meats and chocolate. Absolutely delicious, there is a pleasing savouriness to the wine with abundant, yet fine-grained tannins, intricate balance and excellent length. A joy to drink now and will surely continue to be for the next four to six years."
