Region: Blewitt Springs | McLaren Vale

Story: Located in the cooler Blewitt Springs subregion of McLaren Vale, the roots of this dry grown vineyard run deep with Hardy family history, having been planted by Geoff Hardy in 1993. Producing elegant wines this vineyard is owned by Viticulturist Bec Hardy.

Vineyard: This vineyard is located at Lot 94 on Blewitt Springs Road - hence the name! Block 3 Syrah on east facing slope with rows running up and down the hill in an east/west direction.

GPS: -35.182811, 138.593459

Soils: The vineyard is on deep sandy soils that were once sand dunes, likely from Maslin Sands and Pirramimma Sandstone. The deep sand is over yellow clay, which allows vine roots to travel down deep looking for water. These soils are from the Holocene period (11,700 years old).

Harvest Date: 3rd April 2023

Winemaking: Small batch open fermentation for 9 days on skins. Maturation for 10 months in seasoned French oak puncheons.

Nose: Perfumed black cherry and white pepper nose.

Palate: Lifted fruit aromatics carry through to the palate, where plum, black cherry and spice flavours are balanced by a fine persistent tannin structure.  Showing classic elements of a cooler climate Syrah, this wine is an excellent balance of depth of flavour while retaining a lovely elegance and structure.

Cellaring: Drink now to 2030

Alc: 14.3% TA: 5.90g/L
pH: 3.63 RS: 2.9g/L

95 points - Wine Orbit, 2024
"This is gracefully powerful, showing black / blueberry, rich floral, clove, star anise and cedar characters on the nose, followed by a concentrated palate displaying fleshy texture and finely infused tannins. Sturdy yet refined with a lengthy, delectable finish."

92 points - Wine Pilot, 2024

91 points - James Suckling
"Pepper steak, black fruit, black olives and sage on the nose, followed by a savory, meaty and full-bodied palate. Lightly chewy with good freshness and balance."
