Bec Hardy Grenache 2025
Region: McLaren Vale
Vineyard: This wine is a single vineyard Grenache from Joseph’s Block Vineyard owned by the Blakely family. This Grenache was planted in 1998 and is located on Hahn Rd, Aldinga.
Soils: The soils in this vineyard are Ngaltinga formation loam over calcareous brown earth from the Pleistonecene era (2.6 million years ago).
Harvest date: 25 February 2025
Winemaking: Grapes were gently pressed at the winery before fermentation in open fermenters. The fruit spent 12 days on skins during ferment allowing for generous flavour development. The wine was pressed directly into seasoned French oak hogsheads where it underwent malolactic fermentation. The wine then rested in barrel for 6 months before early bottling to ensure the retention of bright, fresh fruit.
Nose: A lifted nose of raspberry and cherry with herbal notes.
Palate: Medium bodied palate with generous red fruits balanced by attractive acidity. Soft oak tannins from aging in seasoned barrels add complexity and length.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2030

'Fruit is from the Joseph’s Block planted in 1988. This is strongly scented with black raspberries, boysenberries and native bush thyme. Rosemary springs and some dark olives. There is prune and plum too, a hint of beetroot earthiness too. Quite full with sappy richness, some black tea tannins and a coil of cinnamon and clove spice. A wine that is very satisfying and fills your mouth with dark berry flavour. Well worth your dollars.'

'this has all the hallmarks of a bright and chirpy Grenache style, totally legitimate and offering an easy-opening window to the variety that has so much buzz around it right now. Crushed red fruit, some floral spice, and fine dusted gravels lead the aromatics, the palate juicy raspberry with pepper grinds, all lightly structured, medium-weighted, zippy and well-humoured.'
