Bec Hardy Chardonnay 2025
Region: McLaren Vale
Vineyard: This wine is sourced from two vineyards. 60% is from the Lower Tintara Vineyard on Kays Road. This vineyard was originally planted by Thomas Hardy in the 1880’s and is now owned by John and Helen Hardy. The other 40% is from Lot 94 BSR vineyard in Blewitt Springs.
Soils: Both vineyards are on deep sandy soils from the Holocene era (11,600yrs old).
Harvest Date: 23 January (Lower Tintara), 28 January (Lot 94 BSR)
Winemaking: Both batches of grapes were machine harvested at night using a state-of-the-art harvester with a sorting table to ensure only the best fruit was used. Night harvest ensures the fruit retained freshness. Grapes were destemmed and pressed immediately. Juice was then transferred directly to seasoned French oak barrels for fermentation followed by partial malolactic fermentation for added complexity. The wine remained in barrel to mature for 5 months before bottling.
Nose: The nose has a hint lifted stonefruit and melon.
Palate: The palate is a lovely balance of rich, creamy white peach fruit and fresh citrus acid. Subtle brioche notes from the oak influence complement the mid palate with a crisp, dry finish.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2029
