Pertaringa Two Gentlemen's GSM 2023
Region: McLaren Vale
Story: A testament to the co-founders of Pertaringa, Geoff Hardy, and Ian Leask - true gentlemen showing depth and generosity of character, just like our GSM.
Vineyard: 34% Grenache from the Blakeley Vineyard, Hahn Rd, Whites Valley, 33%
Shiraz from Lower Tintara Vineyard on Kays Rd, Blewitt Springs and 33%
Mourvèdre from the Wetlands Vineyard on California Rd, Tatachilla.
Soils: Blakeley Vineyard is grown on Ngaltina formation loam over Calcareous
Brown Earth from the Pleistonecene (2.6 million yrs old), Lower Tintara Shiraz is
sandy loam Maslin Sands (34-56 million years) and the Wetlands Vineyard is clay
loam over Pirramimma Sandstone.
Harvest Date: 23 March (Grenache), 22 March (Shiraz), 23 March (Mourvèdre).
Winemaking: The three parcels were harvested and fermented separately in
small open fermenters. Pressed directly to seasoned French oak hogsheads for
10 months oak maturation before blending and bottling.
Nose: The Grenache provides fragrant notes of the nose of raspberry and cherry.
The dark plum fruits of Shiraz adds depth and weight to the palate and the
Mourvèdre gives the wine lovely perfume and spice lift.
Palate: These 3 varieties combine perfectly to create wine full of aromatics and
complexity, while still being approachable and balanced. This medium bodied wine has beautiful fruit and spice notes and has a long, smooth finish.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2030

"It's delightfully fruited and inviting, showing dark plum, sweet cherry, olive, nutmeg and rich floral aromas. The palate delivers excellent weight and plush texture, wonderfully framed by layer of polished tanning, finishing wonderfully long and structured."

"A delicious example of the famous Rhone blend done McLaren Vale style. Three parcels from different vineyards across McLaren Vale have been blended after fermentation in small open fermenters, before ten months maturation in older French oak hogsheads. The name refers to the two gentlemen, Ian Leask and Geoff Hardy, who founded Pertaringa. This is an inky dark maroon hue. The nose gives us notes of black fruits, mocha, coffee beans, cloves and leather with a sweet core of chocolate. This is bold, rich and ripe, with silky tannins and a lingering finish. An excellent McLaren Vale red which will bring joy over the next four to eight years."
