Open That Bottle Night with Bec Hardy @ Tipsy Hill
Do you have a bottle of wine sitting in your cellar that you’ve been waiting for that ‘perfect’ occasion to open? Wait no longer, as this February’s ‘Open That Bottle Night’ might just be it.
Started in 2000 by American wine journalists Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher, ‘Open That Bottle Night’ is the last Saturday in February every year and was developed to encourage the opening of ‘that bottle’ – the one that’s been sitting there too long. With the simple opening of a bottle of wine comes the sharing of old memories and the creation of new ones and that’s definitely a cause we can get behind. We believe wine is not just about the taste, the smell and the drink itself. It’s the shared experiences that cracking a bottle open creates.
How to get involved in ‘Open That Bottle Night’
1. Select ‘that bottle’. You probably already know which one it is. The one that’s been there way too long or seems too special to open. Or, the one that’s just a bit too different from your usual choice so you haven’t been drawn to it yet. If it’s one of our wines we would love to hear about it. Do you remember when and where you got it? Does it bring back memories of a special event or trip to McLaren Vale? Be sure to snap a photo, post it on Instagram and tell us about it by tagging us @PertaringaWines.
2. Decide how you’ll share and enjoy it. Reach out to your family and friends with an invitation to get together and reconnect. You might decide to match your wine to a delicious home cooked meal or keep it simple by packing a cheese platter and heading out for a sunset picnic. If you can’t get together with your friends and family, encourage them to open their own bottle and take the time to catch up over the phone or Zoom.
3. Crack the bottle open and relax, create memories and enjoy the amazing experiences that can come with simply sharing a bottle of wine.
